Plum--Practically Perfect in Every Way

Posted by  | June 28, 2011  at 2:42 PM

Saturday, June 18, marked the official opening of Plum's new location in Shepherdstown, WV at 108 East German Street.

Not only did the opening give shoppers a chance to check out the new space and ogle lots of gorgeous little things, but it also gave patrons a chance to meet several of Plum's talented artists including Plum proprietors Cari and David Rosen. Meghan Reed, the lovely lady behind the SquarePegMeg accessories, was also in attendance as Plum will house her new design studio.

For those who worked up an appetite shopping, Jessica Carroll's Baby Cakes provided beautiful and v. tasty petite confections. I was especially fond of the lemon raspberry cupcakes, which were the pefect thing to pop while perusing some of Plum's newest lines like London-based Tatty Devine (Love!) and the super cute Pretty Little Fings by Shepherdstown's very own Pang Tubhirun

If you missed out on the grand opening festivities, don't fret--Plum is always a fun, fabulous place to visit. They'll also be offering jewelry making classes this summer, so be sure follow them on Facebook and Twitter to stay in the loop!

In addition to being a scrumptious way to spend a Saturday afternoon, the Big Bad Burger Contest also doubles as a fundraiser for a local organization. The Eastern Panhandle Free Clinic was designated as the beneficiary for this year's event. So far they've received almost $5,000 and donations from the event are still coming in!

And because a cookout isn't complete without good tunes, the kiddos from Hagerstown Rock School, well, they rocked, a lot--not gonna lie, it almost made me wish I was 13 again. Following the HRS, several other local bands took to the stage later in the day, making for an overall awesome afternoon of burgers, beer, and bass lines.

Battle of the Burgers this Saturday in Martinsburg at the 3rd Annual Big Bad Burger Contest

Posted by  | June 7, 2011  at 2:40 PM

Mark your calendar and loosen your belt--Saturday, June 11, is the 3rd Annual Big Bad Burger Contest in Martinsburg, WV. In 2009, Selina Meehleib of MSM Catering and Jason Roach, of Sunfire, Heath, Patio, and Spa, hosted the very first Big Bad Burger Contest. They wanted to create a family-friendly community event that showcased the best of both businesses, while giving back to the community, and so the Big Bad Burger contest was born.

Three years later, the contest is bigger and badder than ever. This year's event will feature 20 area chefs firing up their grills, an amateur band competition courtesy of 101.5 Bob Rocks and the Hagerstown School of Rock, as well as a beer garden for beverages to wash down those burgers.

One of the founding principles of this event, was giving back to the community, so every year a charity is selected to receive the funds raised by the event. This year's charity is the Eastern Panhandle Free Clinic, which provides medical care to the low income, uninsured residents who live in WV.  More specifically, this event will help raise funds to purchase diabetic testing supplies for the patients who are enrolled in the chronic disease management program.

Tickets can be purchased in advance at the clinic (1212 North Mildred Street, Ranson, WV 25438) or at  Dub V Pub. Advance pricing is $7/adults & $2/children. Tickets at the gate are $10/adults & $5/children. Ticket holders will be able to sample all of the burgers in the contest. You will also receive 3 tickets to vote on your top 3 burgers. Additional vote tickets can be purchased for $1 each or 3 tickets for $5.
